2012-06-25 ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, June 25, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr Jean Ping, congratulates Dr. Mohamed Morsi on his election as President of Egypt.
The Chairperson also congratulates the people of Egypt for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during the presidential elections. The peaceful election represents an important milestone for Egypt and the Chairperson views this development as a further demonstration of the desire of the people of Egypt for freedom and democracy in their country.
The Chairperson reiterates the commitment of the African Union in accompanying the people of Egypt to fully consolidate the democratization process in the country as these are the fruits of their long struggle for a democratic dispensation in the country. This development in Egypt is also a further demonstration of Africa's continuous path to strengthen democracy and its desire to build strong and independent institutions.
The Chairperson wishes President Morsi success in his endeavor as he represents the aspirations of all Egyptians for greater democracy, security, rule of law, and long-term stability in the country, as well as for socio-economic development.
